(May 2, 2011) – Beginning May 3, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface MD 170 (Belle Grove Road) from 10th Avenue to MD 2 (Ritchie Highway).  Work includes patching, milling, resurfacing and restriping.  All work will take place weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  SHA expects completion of this project in June, weather permitting.

During construction, no parking will be permitted along MD 170 in the work zone.

The MD 170 resurfacing is one of seven projects under a $4.8 million areawide contract SHA awarded to American Infrastructure of Fallston, MD.  This project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).  Statewide, ARRA-funded projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by providing and preserving thousands of jobs. They are producing long-term cost savings by extending roadway service life while improving safety and ride quality.

An average of 7,600 vehicles travel this section of MD 170 each day.

SHA reminds motorists to plan ahead and check travel conditions including live traffic cameras and lane closure updates at www.chart.maryland.gov.  Construction season is here with numerous active work zone sites that include major construction projects taking months to complete and mobile operations taking only minutes.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
