(April 20, 2011)  Tomorrow, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will open the relocated southbound US 29 ramp to westbound Fairland Road in Montgomery County, weather permitting.  The ramp begins approximately one-third of a mile prior to the existing Fairland Road intersection with US 29.  Once the new ramp opens, right turns onto westbound Fairland Road at the existing intersection will be prohibited.  Motorists must be prepared to use the new ramp before reaching the intersection.  The through travel lanes along southbound US 29 are not affected.

Reconfiguration of the US 29/Fairland Road intersection is necessary because of construction of a new ICC ramp that will ultimately take traffic from westbound ICC onto southbound US 29.  The remaining sections of the ICC between MD 97 and I-95 will open later this year or in early 2012.

SHA reminds motorists to “Think Orange” as they drive through the work zone, reduce speeds and be attentive.  Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.  For more information about the project, please call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1-866-462-0020, or visit the ICC project web site at www.iccproject.com.
