(March 30, 2011) -   Next week, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) begins a $3.9 million road realignment project on Bald Eagle Road between MD 414 (Oxon Hill Road) and MD 210 (Indian Head Highway) in Oxon Hill.  Weather permitting, construction will be complete fall 2012.

This project is located near the I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) and MD 210 interchange.  Currently Bald Eagle Road ends for motorists at Oxon Hill Farm Road and becomes an access road for service vehicles only.  When finished, the existing Bald Eagle Road will be open for all motorists as “New” Bald Eagle Road between MD 210 and MD 414. 

SHA will realign Bald Eagle Road and build new concrete islands at the intersection of Bald Eagle Road and MD 414.  Other work includes upgrading the existing traffic signals at the Bald Eagle Road/MD 414 intersection to audible/countdown pedestrian signals (APS/CPS), constructing a retaining wall along Bald Eagle Road, resurfacing the ramp from southbound I-95/I-495 to MD 210, upgrading the existing storm water management pond, improving drainage, installing new roadway lighting, installing pavement markings and signs, and landscaping.

Single lane closures will occur overnight Monday through Friday between 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday.  Lane closures can also be expected on MD 210:

• Single lane closures northbound MD 210 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
• Single lane closures southbound MD 210 Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
• Double lane closures both directions MD 210 overnight, seven days a week between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Single lane closures both directions MD 210 Saturday and Sunday between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Construction crews will use flaggers, variable message signs, jersey barrier wall, drums, and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone.  SHA awarded the contract to F.O. Day, Co., Inc.
