(March 30, 2011) – This weekend, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close MD 68 (Clear Spring Road) near the bridge at Conococheague Creek north of Williamsport in Washington County.  SHA expects to close the roadway early Saturday morning April 2 and open the road by Sunday evening April 3, weather permitting.

SHA will remove tree branches and other debris wedged beneath the bridge to restore normal water flow.  The closure of the two-lane road is necessary to provide ample room to place the crane on the bridge, which will be used to clear the debris that occurs after heavy rains.  SHA will detour motorists as follows:
• Motorists north of the bridge will turn left on Pinesburg Road, right onto Kemps Mill Road, right on MD 63, right on US 11 and back to MD 68.
• Motorists south of the bridge will turn right on US 11 (Potomac Street), quick left onto MD 63 (Greencastle Pike), left on Kemps Mill Road, left on Pinesburg Road back to MD 68.

SHA awarded the $4,000 project to Hull’s Crane Service of Keedysville.  Those who have questions about traffic operations on MD 68, MD 63, US 11, or other State numbered routes in Washington County may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll free at 1-800-760-7138.

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.  Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
