(January 12, 2011) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) welcomes David “Dave” Peake as its new Metropolitan District Engineer for the agency’s District 4 (Baltimore and Harford counties) offices.  Dave is responsible for the oversight of all maintenance, traffic, design, construction and emergency response operations along state routes (numbered, non-tolled) within the two counties.  He replaces Dave Malkowski, who recently retired after 34 years of service to SHA.

Dave Peake’s career with SHA spans 25 years and includes assignments managing major construction projects in almost every region of the state.  In 2006 he was appointed to the statewide position of Deputy Director for Operations in the Office of Construction. 

“With Dave Peake, the citizens of District 4 have the assurance of a continued high level of leadership as they experienced under the previous district engineer,” said SHA Administrator Neil J. Pedersen. “I am confident in Dave’s ability and his commitment to customer service, and look forward to working with him to enhance the safety of all who use the roadway system.”
  

Dave completed several SHA engineering training and leadership courses that have provided a strong foundation for his new role. He is a graduate of SHA’s Graduate Engineers Training Program (GETP). The four-year GETP introduces newly hired engineers to different parts of SHA while exposing them to the organizational culture, people and day-to-day operations. 

The two-year Advanced Leadership Program focuses on building future leaders.  Managers and team leaders are competitively selected from within the organization develop and refine their leadership skills through individual and team training, and special projects.

Dave earned a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.  While there, he was associated with SHA as a student technical assistant and as a cooperative education student, inspecting contractors’ work on SHA construction projects.  He resides in Baltimore County.
