(Jan. 12, 2011, 7:30 a.m.) – Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) crews continue salting as needed across the State as the latest snowfall moves northeast into New England. Accumulations range from less than an inch in southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore, more than four inches in western Maryland to approximately two or three inches in the Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas. Crews spent most of Monday pre-treating interstates with salt brine solution in advance of the wintry precipitation, which began as sleet or freezing rain in many areas on Tuesday night.

"SHA and contract crews will continue treating roads as needed through the morning rush hour following the overnight snow and ice," said SHA Administrator Neil J. Pedersen. "Interstates are mainly wet and we ask motorists to use extra caution as elevated surfaces may be slippery. Thanks to the dedicated men and women who have worked throughout the night to make road conditions safe for travel."
