(January 4, 2011) – Those who travel along MD 58 will soon use a new traffic pattern.  A new traffic signal will activate at the MD 58 (Cearfoss Pike) intersection with Broadfording Road in Washington County on Wednesday, January 5.  The new signal was installed by Beazer Homes to manage traffic on MD 58 (Salem Avenue) as a result of its new development north of the intersection.

The signal will be placed on “flash mode” on Wednesday, January 5 and will switch to full color operation on Friday, January 7, weather permitting.  The three day “flash” period gives drivers time to adjust to the signal before it goes into full operation.  Variable message signs will be positioned along MD 58 to alert motorists of the new traffic pattern.

The new signal will improve safety on MD 58 as motorists travel to Broadfording Road to access nearby shopping centers.  More than 14,000 vehicles travel along MD 58 near Broadfording Road each day.

Citizens who have questions about traffic operations on MD 58 or other State numbered routes in Washington County may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll free at 1-800-760-7138.

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups. Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
