(November 30, 2010) – Tomorrow night, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is closing MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) at the Ridge Road overpass near Hanover. Motorists should expect intermittent, short-duration closures (approximately 15 minutes each) beginning midnight and continuing through 4 a.m. Thursday.  During these hours traffic on all northbound and southbound lanes of MD 295 may be stopped so crews can safely remove two steel beams from the Ridge Road overpass.

SHA will begin the beam removal process by reducing MD 295 to one lane in each direction after 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 1.  Because this work is just south of the I-195 exit for Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, access to and from the airport via MD 295 may be delayed after midnight.  SHA will also close the Ridge Road bridge to traffic from 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 1 to 5 a.m. Thursday, December 2.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during these hours.  Those wishing to avoid travel delays may use US 1, I-95 and I-97 as alternate north-south routes.

If weather forces postponement, this work will take place during the overnight hours of Thursday, December 2 into Friday, December 3.  SHA will repeat this closure in a few weeks to remove the two remaining steel beams.

SHA appreciates motorists’ patience and encourages everyone to “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by obeying the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.
