What:

SHA will host an open house to update residents and commuters on a major bridge replacement project at the I-695 (Baltimore Beltway)/Frederick Road (MD 144) interchange in Catonsville, Baltimore County.

Beginning spring 2011, crews will begin a project to replace the 53-year old Frederick Road (MD 144) bridge over the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) and improve the interchange.  SHA encourages citizens to attend and learn about the bridge replacement and interchange improvements.

When:

Thursday, December 16 between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Snow Date - If Baltimore County Public Schools are closed due to winter storms on December 16, the meeting will take place on Thursday, January 6, 2011.

Where:

Hillcrest Elementary School Cafeteria, 1500 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228

Why:

The Frederick Road Bridge over the Baltimore Beltway is one of several bridges that SHA is addressing under its “system preservation” program. Most of the bridges along I-695 are more than 50 years old and have been replaced such Charles Street and Liberty Road (which are now under construction).
When this project is complete, the bridge will be wider, higher and longer to accommodate the future widening of I-695.  Safety improvements will include wider sidewalks, new double-turn lanes, bicycle lanes, ramp realignments and a new signal system to improve traffic flow at the interchange.
