Motorists Advised to Plan for Extra Travel Time on Weekdays and Prepare for Lane Closures and Flagging Operations

(April 24, 2009) – On Monday, April 27, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration will begin a $520,000 highway maintenance project to improve safety and ride quality along MD 24 (Rocks Road) between the Deer Creek Bridge and MD 165 (Pylesville Road) in northern Harford County. Crews will perform roadway paving operations through mid-June, weather permitting.

During road work, Rocks Road will be reduced to one lane with flagpersons controlling two-way traffic within the work zone. Lane closures and flagging operations may take place at any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. SHA’s contractor for the project is American Infrastructure of Fallston.

During the next several months, there could be more than 350 work zones. Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but include smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.
