RAVEN'S PLAYER RAY RICE TO JOIN LT. GOVERNOR BROWN TO TAKE ON DRUNK DRIVERS AS PART OF CHECKPOINT STRIKEFORCE CAMPAIGN

WHAT:
On Tuesday, August 24, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown and Ravens’ star running back Ray Rice will join Transportation Secretary Beverley K. Swaim-Staley, the Maryland State Highway Administration and the Baltimore City Police to officially kick off the annual Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign with a nighttime community event at Broadway Market Square in Fells Point.  As part of the National Impaired Driving Crackdown, Checkpoint Strikeforce is a multi-state, zero-tolerance campaign featuring sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to raise awareness and remove impaired drivers, who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, from Maryland roads.
The press event will feature:   the personal story of Ray Rice and the impact a drunk driver had on his family; the crime perspective on driving drunk from Baltimore City Police; street teams with nighttime bus route information, who will distribute free transit tokens; representatives from local transportation providers; and free prizes and giveaways that reinforce the importance of planning ahead and arranging for safe alternatives to driving drunk.
