(July 6, 2010) – On Wednesday, July 7 the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will implement a new right-turn only traffic pattern on eastbound and westbound MD 328 (Matthewstown Road) at the Dyott Court / Fisher Ranger Road intersection in Talbot County.

SHA will install flexible posts and paint dedicated right-turn arrows on the existing right-turn lanes on eastbound and westbound MD 328 approaching the intersection.  These improvements are designed to improve safety by forcing traffic in the right turn lanes to turn at the intersection of MD 328 and Dyott Court/Fisher Ranger Road, and removing a conflict for motorists at the intersection, particularly those attempting to turn onto MD 328 from either Dyott Court or Fisher Ranger Road.

SHA determined these measures were needed after listening to the safety concerns of area residents who use Dyott Court and Fisher Ranger Road to access MD 328.  Engineers also observed that motorists are using the right turn lanes as “bypass” lanes to drive around vehicles making left turns at the intersection, causing the conflict with motorists exiting the side roads.

Work will be completed on Wednesday July 7, weather permitting.  SHA will use variable message signs to alert motorists to the changes.  The new traffic pattern will monitored for 30 days and re-evaluated for safety and traffic flow impacts in early August.

SHA reminds motorists to Choose Safety for Life when driving through work zones: Buckle up. Slow down – speeding kills.  Always drive sober.  Focus. Everyone share the road.  For more information on State highway projects in Talbot County, please call SHA’s District 2 Office at 410-778-3061 or toll-free at 1-800-637-9740.
