Work Begins Thursday Night May 20 and Resumes Sunday Night May 23

(May 19, 2010) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close the two right lanes on northbound I-95/I-495 in the vicinity of the MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) Bridge beginning Thursday night, May 20, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in Greenbelt.  The closure is necessary for SHA to perform the second phase of MD 201 Bridge maintenance and beam repairs which began in late April.

Beginning Sunday night, May 23, repairs will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.  Double lane closures will begin at 10 p.m. and up to three lanes may be closed after midnight.  Weather permitting, work will be complete no later than 5 a.m. Friday morning, May 28.

Motorists will be able to access the ramps at the I-95/I-495/MD 201 interchange and the left lane of northbound I-495. To avoid potential delays, suggested alternate routes are US 29, US 1, MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway), MD 193 and MD 198.

SHA reminds all drivers to buckle up, obey posted speed limits, think “orange” while driving through the work zone and stay alert. Customers who have questions about traffic operations along MD 201 or other State numbered routes in Prince George’s County may call SHA’s District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll free at 1-800-749-0737.
