STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION HOSTS OPEN HOUSE FOR INTERCOUNTY CONNECTOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM

What:     
The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will host an open house for its nationally recognized Intercounty Connector (ICC) environmental program.  With the aid of displays, ICC staff will present the program’s many innovative features and will be available to answer questions.
 
The ICC’s environmental mitigation program addresses project impacts and the stewardship program goes above and beyond basic requirements.  SHA’s commitment to the environment is embedded in the project, including longer bridges over sensitive streams, sound walls, wildlife passages, storm water improvements and numerous other enhancements.  The design integrates state-of-the-art environmental features, including technologically advanced erosion and sediment controls.

Why: 
The ICC is one of America’s greenest highways.  Protecting the natural environment is a first-order priority and the ICC is setting a new standard in environmental responsibility.  Fifteen percent, or $370 million, of the ICC budget is dedicated to environmental projects including enhancements.

Directions: 
From I-95, take exit 29 (MD 212) East toward Beltsville.  Turn left on Old Gunpowder Road and take the first right onto Ammendale Road.  The school will be on the right at 4545 Ammendale Road.
