Litter Pick-Up Efforts Protect Chesapeake Bay and Natural Environment

WHO: Naval Academy Midshipmen
SHA Maintenance Operations Representatives

WHAT: Naval Academy students will do their part to Keep Maryland Beautiful by picking up litter along MD 2 as part of a new pilot Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) sub-program.

WHEN: Saturday, December 5 between 9:00 and 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: MD 2 (Ritchie Highway), North of 84 Lumber just past US 50

WHY: Since AAH began in 1989, volunteers have saved the State millions of dollars in keeping Maryland’s highways litter-free.

The Adopt-A-Highway program allows volunteer groups to pick up litter along non-interstate roadways as a community service. Any family, business, school or civic organization can adopt a state maintained highway. Call your local State Highway office for a list of adoptable roads, complete an agreement, safety training, pick-up your supplies and you are ready to go!

Businesses can also support greener roads through Maryland’s Sponsor-A-Highway program, which provides the opportunity for companies that do business in Maryland to pay for litter removal along one-mile segments of state-maintained highways.
