Overnight Project Requires Double-Lane and Ramp Closures Through Fall

(August 8, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin installing a new driving surface on a three-mile span on southbound US 29 between Frederick Road and MD 175 (Rouse Parkway) in Ellicott City on Sunday, August 11. The overnight work is expected to be complete by November, weather permitting.

Starting Sunday at 8 p.m., crews will begin removing the top layer of the roadway, repair cracks and depressions, and install a new driving surface. Motorists can expect double lane and ramp closures during work hours, which are 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday nights through Thursday mornings.

Contractor, C.J. Miller, LLC based in Hampstead, will use electronic signs, barrels and cones to alert motorists about the double-lane closure and guide them through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration maintains safety in work zones for our crews as well as motorists. Drivers need to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
