(July 8, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will host a public open house, 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 22, for a widening and improvement project on MD 197 (Collington Road) from Kenhill Drive to MD 450 (Annapolis Road) in the Bowie area of Prince George's County. The open house will be at the Bowie Senior Center, 14900 Health Center Drive, Room 101, Bowie.

The State Highway Administration is advancing the design phase for the project, which aims to enhance safety and mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists and improve access to residences, parks and schools.

The project team is proposing to widen MD 197 from a two-lane undivided roadway to a four-lane divided roadway with three roundabouts, a curving alignment and traffic calming measures. In addition, the existing shared-use path along northbound MD 197 would be upgraded to better accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists; a wooden privacy fence is proposed adjacent to some properties instead of a chain-link fence, along with other landscape enhancements.
