Motorists Should Expect Minor Traffic Delays

(May 15, 2009) – This week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) began a $200,000 resurfacing project along one mile of MD 277 (Fletchwood Road) between MD 316 (Appleton Road) and MD 279 (Elkton Road). Weather permitting, resurfacing will be complete by Memorial Day.

Construction will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with single lane closures facilitated by flagger operations. Although access to neighboring roads, residences and the Fletchwood Community Park will be maintained, there may be delays. Motorists should allow extra travel time and follow the direction of electronic message boards, signs, cones, drums and flag persons, which will guide them through the work zone.

SHA awarded the contract to Kinsley Construction, Inc. Citizens who have questions about MD 277 or any other State numbered roadway in Cecil County should call SHA’s District 2 office at 410.778.3061 or toll-free at 1.800.637.9740.

As temperatures rise, work zones will become a more familiar sight. Statewide, there may be more than 350 work zones this construction season. SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times. Protect yourself, other travelers and highway workers by choosing safety for life.
