Daytime Flagging Operation Continues Through Mid-April; Drivers Reminded to Remain Alert for Traffic Pattern Change

(March 13, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project to improve a section of MD 198 (Laurel Fort Meade Road) between MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) and just west of Tipton Airport in Fort Meade on March 15. This phase of work will be complete by mid-April, weather permitting.

Crews will mill (remove the top layer of asphalt), patch, pave and restripe this section of MD 198. Drivers can expect single-lane closures Mondays through Fridays 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

The State Highway Administrations’ contractor, Allen Myers MD of Fallston, will use variable message signs, cones, flaggers, and temporary traffic signs to guide motorists through the work zone. The work is part of the areawide roadway maintenance in the MD 198 and MD 32 corridors this spring.

The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
