Triple-Lane Closures Required; Motorists Advised to Plan Ahead
(March 13, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will perform repairs to the Brooklyn Bridge Road bridge over I-95 in Laurel beginning Monday, March 25. The repair work will be complete within a week, weather permitting.
Crews will close three lanes on southbound I-95, Sundays through Thursdays, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Beginning at 9 p.m., crews will close one right lane on I -95 south. At 10 p.m., crews will close a second right lane, followed by a third lane at 11 p.m. A flagging operation will be in effect on westbound Brooklyn Bridge Road. The repairs will require single lane closures on northbound I-95 for up to three nights.
The process to complete the repair involves the removal of a cross-frame and bracing installation to control girder movement. Crews will then slowly heat and cool the steel beam over several cycles. Once complete, the temporary bracing will be removed, and the cross-frame reinstalled. Due to the nature of the repairs, the work will require several nights to complete.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg, will use variable Message Sign boards and barrels to safely guide drivers through the work zone. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, and slow down through the work zone.
Concrete General, Inc., of Gaithersburg, will perform the work. Customers who have questions may contact the District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737.
