Project Led by Town of Thurmont and Requires Daily Single-Lane Closures

(October 12, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will assist the Town of Thurmont in Frederick County with a water and sewer line improvement project on MD 550 (North Church Street/Sabillasville Road) between Kelbaugh Road and Boundary Avenue beginning on Monday, October 16. The project is expected to be complete June 2024, weather permitting.

Drivers can expect daytime single-lane closures guided by a flagging operation 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. While most of the work will be performed during daytime hours, there may be occasions where overnight work is necessary 8 p.m.-5 a.m. The work and closure are expected to impact traffic on MD 550 and may cause delays. Motorists are encouraged to find alternative routes or plan extra travel time during work hours.

The Town-led project will replace the water and sewer line underneath this one-mile section of MD 550.

For project information on the utility improvement project, contact the Town of Thurmont for at (301) 271-7313 or visit the Town’s website at www.thurmont.com.

The State Highway Administration maintains safety in work zones for our crews as well as motorists. Drivers need to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
