Drivers Can Expect Overnight Single-Lane Closures on Northbound US 29

(July 5, 2023) - The State Highway Administration will begin a project the evening of Sunday, July 9, to resurface northbound US 29 (Columbia Pike) between MD 175 (Little Patuxent Freeway) and Frederick Road, a span of 3.5 miles, in Ellicott City. The project should be complete by the beginning of September, weather permitting.

Starting at 8 p.m. on Sunday, crews will close one travel lane on northbound US 29 during overnight hours only for the resurfacing work. Work will continue night, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day, Sundays through Thursdays. The project will require single-lane, shoulder, and ramp closures during work hours.

Contractor Allan Myers Inc. based in Jessup, will use electronic signs, barrels and cones to alert motorists about the closures and guide them safely through the work zone and detour routes. Motorcyclists are advised to take extra caution for uneven pavement when changing lanes. The State Administration understands that lane closures associated with road construction can be an inconvenience but are necessary to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system.

Warm weather is here, and all motorists are urged to remain vigilant for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. Remember motorcycles can be hidden from view in vehicle blind spots. Please look twice and save a life.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
