Two-Day Operation will be Completed the Weekend of July 7

(July 5, 2023) – The Maryland State Highway Administration will conduct a project Saturday and Sunday, July 8-9, to improve nearly two miles of MD 140 (W. Main Street/Waynesboro Pike) between Warthens Court and the Pennsylvania State line in Emmittsburg, weather permitting.

The pavement preservation project includes patching and applying microsurfacing – a pavement treatment that improves ride quality and increases friction and skid resistance during inclement weather. Drivers should expect single-lane closures guided by a flagging operation during the two-day pavement improvement project, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Contractor Slurry Pavers Inc., of Richmond, Va., will use barrels, cones, flaggers and arrow boards to guide motorists safely through the work zone. The State Highway Administration understands road work can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain a world-class transportation system.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
