Project Will Improve Ride Quality and Enhance Safety Features along Roadway

(September 3, 2009) – On Tuesday, September 8, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a $2 million project to resurface US 50 (Ocean Gateway) between MD 309 (Cordova Road) and east of Chapel Road in Easton, Talbot County.  Weather permitting, construction will be complete by early 2010.

SHA will patch and resurface approximately two miles along US 50.  Construction will also include the upgrade of guardrails, where needed. To ensure minimal traffic impact, crews will conduct single-lane closures working Sunday through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. SHA will use temporary traffic signs, electronic message boards, arrow boards, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone. This contract was awarded to David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown.

When driving through the work zone, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices.  Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.  Choose to make work zone safety your business by logging onto www.choosesafetyforlife.com to learn traffic information.  Those who have questions about traffic operations on US 50 or any State numbered routes in Talbot County may call SHA’s District 2 Office at 410-778-3061 or toll-free at 1-800-637-9740.
