Bridge Rehabilitation Work Continues; Lane Closures in Effect April 16-21

(April 14, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will implement temporary overnight lane closures Sunday night through Friday morning, April 16-21, on northbound I-95 at the I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) interchange in the Arbutus area of Baltimore County. Additionally, one lane will be closed on Sulphur Spring Road under I-95 during non-peak daytime hours.

The lane closures are required as part of the ongoing rehabilitation project for 10 bridges within the interchange. The project includes new driving surfaces and replacement of concrete traffic barriers and parapets. Learn more about the project here. Beginning Sunday evening, motorists can expect the following:

Overnight Lane Closure

  • Northbound I-95 at I-695: Motorists can expect overnight single-lane closures between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. and double left-lane closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, April 16-20.

Daytime Lane Closure

  • Sulphur Spring Road: A single-lane closure will be required on Sulphur Spring Road under the I-95 bridges during non-peak hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 17-21. The closure will alternate eastbound and westbound, with flagging operations to control two-way traffic on one open lane.

The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience and asks motorists to please stay alert and be patient as you pass through the work zones. Crews will use digital message boards, temporary signs, and barrels to direct drivers safely through the area. All work is weather permitting and is expected to be complete by the end of the week.

Contractor Wagman Heavy Civil Inc., of York, Pa., will perform the work.
