Project Part of an Areawide Resurfacing Contract Funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

(August 27, 2009) – This week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) began resurfacing MD 302 (Barclay Road) between US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) and MD 313 (Goldsboro Road).  This is the final of four resurfacing projects comprising the Queen Anne’s County areawide projects funded through $2.3 million of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

SHA will patch and resurface this four-mile section of MD 320, which carries an average of 3,160 vehicles per day. Construction will take place between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weather permitting, resurfacing should be complete by mid-September. The roadway will remain open during construction; however, motorists may encounter single lanes closures with alternating traffic. SHA encourages motorists to be watchful for traffic flaggers, cones, electronic variable message signs and drums that will guide them through the work zone.
Resurfacing is now complete for the following roadways, all a part of the areawide stimulus contract in Queen Anne’s County:
• MD 544 (McGinnis Road) between MD 290 (Dudley Corner Road) and US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway)
• MD 544 A (McGinnis Road) between US 301 and MD 313 (Millington Road)
• MD 213 (Church Hill Road) between Southeast Creek Road and Union Church Road

These projects are made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the ARRA, bringing critically needed transportation investments to Maryland.  Projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by supporting hundreds of jobs.  Follow the delivery of these projects at www.recovery.maryland.gov, which tracks every category of ARRA spending and provides contract-level details to the public in an effort to achieve new levels of government transparency and efficiency.

SHA awarded this contract to David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown.  Those who have questions about MD 320 or any other state-numbered roadway in Queen Anne’s County should call SHA’s District 2 office at 410.778.3061 or toll-free at 1.800.637.9740.  SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.  Learn more about work zone safety and the Choose Safety for Life campaign at www.choosesafetyforlife.com
