Through April, Northbound Left Lane and Left Turn Lane to be Closed 24/7
(February 21, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is advising the public of a temporary traffic pattern change along northbound MD 45 (York Road) in Baltimore County starting tomorrow, February 22, to accommodate BGE preventative maintenance work on underground electric transmission cables beneath York Road. Weather permitting, the work will be complete in late April.
Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, BGE contractor ARGO Systems, of Baltimore, will install the traffic pattern with concrete barriers and traffic barrels to create a utility work zone along northbound York Road just north of Bosley Avenue. The pattern is expected to be in place by Friday morning.
Once the work zone is set up, the center two-way turn lane and the left lane along northbound York Road between Bosley Avenue and north of Hillside Avenue will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week until the project is completed. Southbound lanes of York Road will remain open.
The following turns will be prohibited in the work zone area:
- left turns to and from the Yorkridge Center North Business Complex on York Road,
- left turns from Matthews Avenue to southbound York Road and
- left turns from Warren Place/Cockeysville Senior Center to southbound York Road.
The State Highway Administration advises motorists, bus riders and travelers to allow extra travel time along northbound and southbound York Road in the vicinity of the BGE work zone. This work supports BGE’s Shawan Road Substation as part of BGE’s multi-year Electric Reliability Upgrade Project.
BGE customers with questions may contact members of BGE’s project outreach team: Joy Hamilton at 240-583-7925 or Jordan Mueller at 410-618-0107, or email

The State Highway Administration maintains safety in work zones for our crews as well as motorists. Drivers need to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
