Motorists Advised of 14’6” Restriction on I-70 at MD 75 through Summer 2023
(June 30, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close lanes overnight for about a week on I-70 in Frederick County to install a shield under the MD 75 bridge. The shield will collect debris from the removal of the bridge deck and the construction of a new bridge deck.
Starting Tuesday, July 5, and continuing for approximately one week, crews will close single lanes, as needed, on I-70 at the MD 75 bridge between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. weeknights to install the shield. Once installed, the shield will result in reduced height from 17 feet to 14 feet, 6 inches on eastbound and westbound I-70 under the MD 75 bridge. Vehicles exceeding that height will use the MD 75 exit to bypass the bridge and continue onto I-70.
MDOT SHA contractor Greenbridge Construction, of Westminster, will use roadway signs, cones and barrels to alert motorists about the lane closures and height restriction.
The work is part of a $6.4 million project to rehabilitate the MD 75 bridge deck. The shield will be in place for the duration of the project, which is expected to be complete in late summer 2023. Learn more about this project by clicking here.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
