Project Made Possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

(July 21, 2009) – On Monday, July 27, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a $2.9 million project to resurface US 50 (Ocean Gateway) between MD 662B (Longwoods Road) and MD 309 (Cordova Road) in Talbot County.  Weather permitting, construction will be complete by fall 2009.

Work on this project includes patching, grinding, resurfacing and restriping this four-mile section of US 50.  The project, which SHA awarded to David A. Bramble, Inc., also involves upgrade of guardrails, where needed.

More than 31,000 vehicles per day travel along this portion of US 50, a number that increases significantly with summer travel to and from the Eastern Shore. To ensure minimal impact to daily traffic, construction will take place overnight, Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Motorists should expect single-lane closures during this time and remain alert to temporary traffic signs, electronic message boards, arrow boards, cones and barrels that will guide motorists through the work zone.

When driving through the work zone, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices.  Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.  Choose to make work zone safety your business by logging onto www.choosesafetyforlife.com to learn traffic information.  Those who have questions about traffic operations on US 50 or any State numbered routes in Talbot County may call SHA’s District 2 Office at 410-778-3061 or toll-free at 1-800-637-9740.

This project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, bringing critically needed transportation investments to Maryland.  Projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by supporting hundreds of jobs.  Follow the delivery of these projects at www.recovery.maryland.gov, which tracks every category of ARRA spending and provides contract-level details to the public in an effort to achieve new levels of government transparency and efficiency.
