***TRAFFIC ALERT*** MDOT SHA TO IMPROVE SEGMENTS OF US 1 BUSINESS, US 1 BYPASS AND MD 23 IN HARFORD COUNTY

​Crews Will Work Along Segments of MD 23, US 1 Business and US 1 Hickory Bypass Through Late Spring

(March 9 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin work this week on pavement improvement projects along the US 1 Hickory Bypass, US 1 Business and MD 23 (East-West Highway) in Harford County. Work will begin Thursday, March 10, and is expected to be complete by late spring.   

Starting Thursday, motorists will see the following:      

  • US 1 Hickory Bypass – Contractor Gray & Son Inc. of Timonium, will mill, repair and resurface US 1 Hickory Bypass from US 1 Business to the northern “T” intersection with Conowingo Road. The work will require temporary lane closures weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The $1.1 million project is expected to be completed early spring.  
  • US 1 Business – Crews will patch asphalt pavement along US 1 Business between the signalized intersection with US 1 Hickory Bypass and the northern “T” intersection with US 1 (Conowingo Road) north of Fountain Green. This work will require temporary lane closures and flagging operations weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The $379,000 project is expected to be completed late spring. Contractor Allan Myers – MD Inc. of Fallston is handling the work.
  • MD 23 (East-West Highway) – Contractor Allan Myers - MD Inc. will also patch asphalt pavement along segments of northbound and southbound MD 23 from Commerce Road to US 1 Hickory Bypass in Forest Hill. Contractor crews will work weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with temporary lane closures and flagging operations. The $245,000 project is expected to be completed late spring.
