​Motorists Should Watch for Emergency Vehicles and Anticipate Delays

(February 16, 2022) – In conjunction with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA), Maryland State Police (MSP) will perform traffic “drags” – during which police bring traffic to a reduced pace – along eastbound and westbound I-68 (National Freeway) from the MSP Finzel Truck Weigh Station to Exit 45, Hillcrest Drive, on Thursday, February 17, in Allegany County.    

The traffic drags are required so crews can safely remove traffic data collection equipment. The equipment, which was installed last week, allows MDOT SHA to collect traffic speed and volume data, and vehicle class information. DCI from Columbia, Md., will perform the work.    

Intermittent traffic drags will occur Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, for equipment removal. Motorists are advised to remain alert, use caution, and watch for MSP and MDOT SHA vehicles. 
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
