MDOT SHA ASSISTS WITH ROAD AND RAMPS CLOSURES FOR FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS’ MEMORIAL SERVICE WEDNESDAY

​(February 1, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is working with local officials and police departments to support logistics for the funeral and procession of fallen firefighters Lt. Paul Butrim, Lt. Kelsey Sadler, and Firefighter/Paramedic Kenneth Lacayo. Motorists should expect major midday delays on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. 

The memorial service begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Baltimore Convention Center, which is located at 1 West Pratt St., Baltimore. The service is expected to last approximately two hours, at which time dignitaries will assemble and prepare for the procession to Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens at 200 East Padonia Road in Timonium. 

Motorists should expect all mainlines of northbound I-83 (Jones Falls Expressway) to be closed during the procession, as well as all access points to the interstate. The outer loop of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) will briefly close as the procession travels to access northbound I-83 (Baltimore-Harrisburg Expressway) to Padonia Road. As the procession passes, I-83 and I-695, as well as access ramps. will re-open to motorists.  

Motorists should avoid northbound Jones Falls Expressway, I-695 and I-83, as well as the on-ramps to the expressway as traffic will be heavy.
