MD 586 sign
(February 1, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will place a new traffic signal at MD 586 (Veirs Mill Road) and Norris Lane/Monterrey Drive intersection on flash mode for a three-day period starting tomorrow, February 2, 2022. The 72-hour flash period for the new traffic signal is designed to familiarize motorists of the new traffic pattern. The traffic signal will be put into full operation on February 7.
Construction on the new $260,000 traffic signal began in late December and includes countdown and accessible pedestrian crossing signals on the north and east legs of the intersection. MDOT SHA traffic analysis has determined that a traffic signal with pedestrian crossing and marked crosswalks was necessary to ensure the safe crossing for students at nearby schools.
Nearly 32,000 vehicles use this section of Veirs Mill Road at this intersection each day. Motorists, pedestrian, and cyclists are urged to familiarize themselves with the operation of the new traffic signal.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
