Daytime Work to Include Installing Reflective Pavement Markings

(November 5, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin work next week on a project to improve safety and ride quality along US 1 Bel Air Bypass in the Bel Air area of Harford County.

Starting Monday, November 8, crews will mill, patch, resurface existing pavement and install reflective pavement markings on one mile of US 1 Bel Air Bypass from MD 147 (Harford Road) to Winters Run.

Contractor crews will work between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, with temporary single lane closures along US 1 Bel Air Bypass. MDOT SHA contractor Gray and Son Inc. of Timonium will use electronic signs, reflective barrels and cones to alert motorists of the work zone and lane closures.  The $1 million paving project is scheduled to be complete late December, weather permitting.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

Editor’s Note

From intersection improvements to widening and new interchange construction, MDOT SHA is investing in projects to enhance the commute and daily travel for millions of Marylanders.  MDOT SHA maintains more than 2,500 bridges and 17,000 miles of non-toll state roads – the interstate, US and state numbered routes in Maryland’s 23 counties.
