Patching, Crosswalk Replacement is Expected to Complete in Two Weeks
(August 18, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin improving US 40 Alternate (Old National Pike) at MD 34 in the Boonsboro area of Washington County on August 30.
The work was postponed from August 23.
Starting at 7 a.m., crews will begin patching and replacing the existing crosswalk at the intersection. Crews will continue to work 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays until the project’s expected completion in two weeks. MDOT SHA contractor is C. William Hetzer, Inc. of Hagerstown will be doing the work.
During the work hours, crews will use a flagging operation at the four-way intersection to safely guide motorists through the work area. Motorists can expect a temporary closure of St. Paul Street when crews reach that leg of the intersection. Signage, traffic cones and barrels will be in place.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
