Starting Monday, Crews Will Use a Crane to Pull Tree Limbs, Other Debris

(July 28, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin removing debris beneath the MD 161 (Darlington Road) bridge over Deer Creek in northeastern Harford County starting Monday, August 2.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., each day crews will be using a crane to pull large debris such as tree limbs from Deer Creek in the vicinity of the bridge. This work will require crews to close the bridge, which is located just north of Deer Creek Road, while work is taking place. The work is expected to be complete by 5 p.m. Friday, August 6.

Motorists traveling along MD 161 between US 1 (Conowingo Road) and MD 155 (Level Road) can use the posted detour route, which includes US 1, MD 136 (Priestford Road) and MD 155. The roadway will be open to local traffic only on either side of the bridge.

In case of inclement weather, the temporary bridge closure and debris removal work will take place on the next possible weekday.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Stranded motorists can dial #77 or 911 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
