(February 25, 2021) – As part of its multi-year
Reisterstown Road Electric Reliability Upgrade program,
Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) is beginning another project to perform preventative maintenance on underground transmission cables on a short segment of MD 140 (Reisterstown Road).
Beginning today, BGE contractor crews will work on a segment of northbound Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills on a 24-hour / 7-day schedule for approximately 90 days, through early May.
To assist BGE contractor crews in creating a safe work zone for BGE contractors and area travelers, MDOT SHA has permitted BGE to shift the two northbound lanes of MD 140 and alter traffic patterns in the BGE work zone, which is located halfway between Greenspring Valley Road and Painters Mill Road.
There will be two lanes open in each direction of Reisterstown Road and access to businesses will remain open during the BGE project, with the following changes:
- The traffic signal for the Walmart at 9750 Reisterstown Road and Heritage Toyota at 9801 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills will be temporarily placed on flash during construction.
- The left turn lanes from northbound and southbound MD 140 to the Walmart access road will be temporarily removed and the Heritage Toyota signalized access will be closed, and detours will be in place.
- The access road to the Walmart will be temporarily converted to a right-in, right out access only. To access Walmart via northbound MD 140, turn left at the traffic signal leading to the Valley Centre main entrance and travel through the marked detour route within Valley Centre to Walmart. Walmart customers wishing to access northbound MD 140 will turn left out of Walmart onto Lifebridge Road and follow detour signs to turn right onto Painters Mill Road and return to northbound MD 140.
- The main entrance driveway for Heritage Toyota will be closed and detoured. Guide signs will direct Toyota customers to the unsignalized entrance to the dealership.
BGE customers with questions or concerns about this project may contact BGE’s project outreach team at 443-603-3730, or by email at
BGEProject@bge.com. When contacting BGE about this project, please refer to the “Reisterstown Road Electric Reliability Upgrade Site 9”and a member of the BGE team will respond.
MDOT SHA advises travelers to plan for extra travel time along Reisterstown Road in the work zone.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
