STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO PERFORM ROUTINE BRIDGE INSPECTION ON SPA CREEK BRIDGE IN ANNAPOLIS

(January 29, 2008) – Today, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin inspecting the MD 181 (Compromise Street) Bridge over Spa Creek in Annapolis. The inspection process is scheduled to take approximately one week, weather permitting. Single-lane closures are planned on the bridge between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, February 4 and Tuesday, February 5.           
          
This is a routine inspection pursuant to Maryland’s rigorous bridge inspection program which covers 2,584 bridges and overpasses. Hardesty & Hanover, LLP of Annapolis will be conducting the Spa Creek Bridge inspection.          
          
The Spa Creek Bridge is a double-leaf bascule drawbridge constructed in 1946. The two-lane bridge connects downtown Annapolis and Eastport; the draw span is raised about 3,800 times each year, on average.
