Project to Enhance Left Turn Movement for Motorists at Key Shore Intersection

(January 30, 2008) – This week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin intersection improvements along US 50 (Ocean Gateway) at MD 213 (Centreville Road) in Queen Anne’s County.

The project will convert the existing left turns along US 50 at MD 213 to allow motorists to turn left only on a green arrow. This will provide motorists who wish to turn left from either direction along US 50 to MD 213 with an exclusive left turn, which will improve safety. The timing of the signal will be adjusted accordingly to work in conjunction with the improvement. The project will be complete by early next week, weather permitting.

“SHA’s number-one priority is safety,” said SHA Administrator Neil J. Pedersen. “Our goal is to make an immediate impact to the US 50/MD 213 intersection, which will enhance traffic operations into and out of Chesapeake College.”

By late-spring, SHA will further improve intersection operations by lengthening the existing left turn lanes in each direction along US 50 at MD 213. Lengthening the left turn lanes will provide additional vehicle storage at the intersection.

SHA reminds all drivers to buckle up, obey posted speed limits, stay alert and never drink and drive. Citizens who have questions about traffic operations on US 50, MD 213 or other State numbered routes in Queen Anne’s County may call SHA’s District 2 Office at 410-810-3200 or toll free at 1-800-637-9740.
