US 29 sign
(December 3, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin improving the roadway surface of the southbound US 29 (Columbia Pike) bridge over the Patuxent River in Howard County.
The work scheduled to begin on Friday, December 4 has been postponed one week to Friday, December 11.
Crews will close one travel lane on the bridge in the area south of Old Columbia Road and reopen it by noon the following Sunday, weather permitting. One lane will remain open to traffic while the work is being performed. The closure will enable crews to repair potholes and safely remove and replace sections of the concrete roadway. Electronic message boards, signs and cones will be used to alert motorists ahead of the closure.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
