(August 12, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has completed safety enhancements on US 1 (Washington Boulevard) at Kit Kat Road in Howard County. The $1.8 million project will benefit motorists and pedestrians in the area by providing a safer roadway for all users.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Ardent Construction of McLean, Va., replaced a flashing signal with a full traffic signal that has accessible countdown pedestrian controls. Crews also installed a new crosswalk at the intersection and added Americans with Disabilities Act compliant sidewalks. The roadway was widened to extend the right turn lane along northbound US 1 at Kit Kat Road and a new entrance was constructed for the Washington Boulevard Marketplace.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
