I-270 sign
(August 13, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will close the northbound I-270 exit ramp to southbound MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike) starting Sunday, August 16 at 10 p.m. Crews will perform underground pipe work to improve area drainage as part of a $82 million construction project. The ramp will remain closed through the week and is expected to reopen on Sunday, August 23.
Motorists on northbound I-270 will be directed to use eastbound I-70 and exit at MD 85 (Buckeysville Pike). MDOT SHA will use electronic message boards, temporary signs and barrels to alert motorists of the ramp closure and guide them to the detour route.
This project is replacing two poorly rated bridges on I-270 with a three-span structure and will widen MD 85 between Spectrum Drive and Crestwood Boulevard. It is expected to be complete in fall 2022.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
