(March 5, 2008) – Next week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin resurfacing and safety improvements along MD 109 (Beallsville Road) between MD 28 (Darnestown Road) and the bridge over the Little Monocacy River in Poolesville, Montgomery County. Weather permitting, construction will be complete fall 2008.

The $2.5 million project includes culvert pipe replacement and cleaning, replacement of traffic barrier, and new curb and gutter installation to improve drainage. Safety improvements include grinding and patching of the existing roadway, resurfacing and new pavement markings.

During construction, motorists can expect daytime lane closures and possible lane shifts along MD 109 between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and possible nighttime lane closures between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Traffic will be directed via a flagging operation. SHA will provide variable message signs, drums, and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone. SHA awarded the contract to Francis O. Day Co., Inc. of Rockville, MD.

SHA reminds all drivers to buckle up, obey posted speed limits, think orange, and stay alert. Citizens who have questions about traffic operations on MD 109 or other State numbered routes in Montgomery County may call SHA’s District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll free at 1-800-749-0737.
