(June 16, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is providing a safer path for students who walk to Waverly Elementary School in Howard County. Crews have begun upgrading sidewalks and adding new curbs and gutters to eastbound MD 99 (Old Frederick Road) between Bracken Drive and Maplewood Drive.

The project requires a single lane closure with a flagging operation Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Work should be complete by next week, weather permitting. 

MDOT SHA’s contractor, MIM Construction, Inc. of Frederick, is using electronic message boards, signs and cones to alert motorists ahead of the closure area and work zone. 

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
