Motorists Urged to Use Alternate Routes During Repairs

(February 18, 2020) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has closed the MD 28 (Dickerson Road) bridge over the Monocacy River to  perform emergency road work. Starting at 10 a.m. today, crews closed both lanes on the bridge so they could safely repair drainage grates. There is currently no estimated time for completion.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Corman Kokosing Construction Company of Annapolis Junction, will use barrels and signs to alert motorists about the closure and direct them to the detour route.

The MD 28 detour directs travelers to use MD 109 (Old Hundred Road), MD 355 (Urbana Pike), MD 80 (Fingerboard Road) and MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike). Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time if traveling during the closure. Approximately 9,300 vehicles use this section of MD 28 every day.
