Motorists Should Expect Off-Peak Single Lane Closures
(October 16, 2019) – Beginning Friday, October 18, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project to improve the ride quality for thousands of motorists that commute on MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike) between English Muffin Way and MD 80 (Fingerboard Road). Crews will patch approximately three miles of both directions of MD 85. The $915,000 project will be complete late fall.
Motorists can expect single lane closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday hours as needed. MDOT SHA’s contractor, F.O. Day Company, Inc. of Rockville, will use a flagging operation to alternate traffic through the work zone with additional flag persons positioned at side roads to help direct motorists. Approximately 6,700 vehicles travel this section of MD 85 each day, so motorists should add extra travel time during construction.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for motorists, as well as our crews. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
