Crews to Remove Old CSX Railroad Tracks across MD 140

MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO AVOID MD 140, USE I-795 AS ALTERNATIVE ROUTE

(July 24, 2008) – As part of CSX Transportation’s efforts to remove unused railroad tracks along State highways in Maryland, SHA will temporarily close two lanes of MD 140 (Reisterstown Road) to allow CSX Transportation contractors to safely remove unused railroad tracks across MD 140 north of Owings Mills Boulevard in northwestern Baltimore County.

Railroad track removal will require a weekend closure of two lanes of MD 140,(one northbound and one southbound) between 9 p.m. Friday, August 1 and 5 a.m. Monday, August 4. The lane closures, from Owings Mills Boulevard to Straw Hat Lane, are necessary to ensure worker and motorist safety during removal of two steel rail beams from the MD 140 roadbed. Crews will work on one side of the roadway at a time. One northbound lane and one southbound lane will remain open; however, both northbound and southbound traffic will be temporarily shifted to one side of the roadway.

SHA strongly advises through-travelers along MD 140 to avoid the area and to use I-795 (Northwest Expressway) if traveling between Reisterstown and Pikesville. Motorists going to and from locations in the vicinity of the MD 140/Owings Mills Boulevard intersection and the I-795/Owings Mills Boulevard interchange are strongly encouraged to plan ahead for extra travel time and stay alert for the temporary two-way travel pattern.

Citizens who have questions about MD 140 or any other State numbered roadway in Baltimore County should call SHA’s District 4 office at 410-321-2800 or toll free 1-800-962-3077. SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.
