Bridge to be Closed on Three Days so Crews May Clear Logs and Large Debris from Deer Creek; Detours in Effect 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Daily

(June 30, 2016) - The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close and detour the MD 161 (Darlington Road) Bridge over Deer Creek in Harford County for three days next week.  SHA maintenance crews will remove logs and other large debris stuck under the bridge after recent heavy rainstorms.

SHA crews will close the bridge to all traffic between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, Thursday, July 7 and Friday, July 8.  During the daytime closures, temporary dynamic message boards and detour signs will direct all travelers to the detour route, which includes MD 155 (Level Road), MD 22 (Churchville Road), MD 136 (Priestford Road), and US 1 (Conowingo Road).

SHA urges motorists to plan for extra travel time on MD 161 and the detour route, and to look ahead for SHA crews and heavy highway maintenance equipment moving to and from the bridge.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.

Those who have questions about SHA maintenance activities in Harford County may call the SHA District 4 Office – Maintenance Division at 410-229-2300, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or send email to shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us.
