Lane Closures and Flagging Operations May be in Effect Weeknights 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Motorists Advised to Plan for Extra Travel Time

(August 29, 2008) – As part of the State’s ongoing highway maintenance program, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) and its contractor, Gray & Son, Inc. of Timonium, began a new project this week to resurface US 1 ALT between Southwestern Boulevard and the I-695 Bridge.

SHA and the contractor advise motorists to plan ahead for extra travel time at night during the next several weeks; temporary lane closures, flagging operations, and traffic shifts may occur anytime on weeknights between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday – Thursday. The $518,000 project will be completed by late September, weather permitting.

SHA and the contractor appreciate your patience during the highway resurfacing work, and advise motorists to plan for extra travel time through the work zone. For more information about highway maintenance activities along US 1 ALT., I-695, or other State-maintained highways within Baltimore County, citizens may contact SHA’s District Four Office Maintenance Section at 410-321-2760 or toll free at 1-800-962-3077.

During the next several months, there could be more than 350 work zones. Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.
