Work Scheduled to Begin Next Week; Motorists Should Expect Delays during Construction and Plan for Extra Travel Time near the Kent County Line

(September 3, 2008) – Next week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a $1.1 million project to resurface two and one-half miles along southbound US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) from the Kent County line to south of MD 544 (McGinnes Road). Weather permitting, work will begin on Monday, September 8 and be complete by the end of this month.

Motorists should expect single-lane closures along southbound US 301 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. SHA will use cones, barrels, and signs to guide motorists through the work zone. SHA awarded the contract to David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown.

SHA will also resurface the shoulders along southbound US 301 and re-stripe the highway. More than 11,500 vehicles travel along US 301 at the Queen Anne’s/Kent County line each day. Motorists should expect delays through the work zone. SHA thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation.

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups. When workers are on the road, THINK ORANGE: slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected. Choose to make work zone safety your business at choosesafetyforlife.com.
